Following a day of wedding ring shopping in London’s famed jewellery quarter, Hatton Garden, Tim and Laura had already made their choice, when an unplanned browse around Rebus’ workshop changed everything.
“After seeing what Rebus could do, I fell in love with the idea of having something a little more personal.”
It transpired that for Tim, a signet ring as a wedding ring, was a natural extension of his family history, with both his grandfather and father sporting signets; the former as a wedding ring, and the latter, a gold and onyx piece gifted to him by his wife. It wasn’t long before Tim’s own wife-to-be, Laura, joined the family tradition, opting for a Rebus pendant.
“The opportunity to get Laura the matching pendant was just the icing on the cake."
Working with the Rebus design service to create artwork for their ring and pendant, Tim and Laura set out to create an engraving imbued with meaning, something unique that would tell their story.
The couple walk most weekends in Bushy Park, and this South West London spot would become the location of their engagement too. Together with Rebus, they sought to incorporate their love of the outdoors and the importance of the park into their design.
The dual engraving on each piece—a stag and doe—symbolises those long walks together in nature, and a bumblebee captures the teamwork involved in their partnership. Each symbol was designed to represent strength, leadership, and fertility.
“So many of our friends came up to us during the wedding to tell us how much they love the idea and how unique it is! It is far more special, relatable and accessible than an art piece. You get to wear it…it sort of becomes part of you.”
