Designing a personalised signet ring can be both an intimidating and exciting experience. It’s an opportunity to create a piece of jewellery that truly reflects who you are, and one that you will cherish for years to come. At Rebus, we believe that the most important factor in designing your ring is choosing a design that feels authentic and meaningful to you: it is an opportunity to engrave your story.
Our name, Rebus, comes from the Latin phrase and principle ‘non verbis, sed rebus’ – the practice of using symbols and images, rather than words, to express ideas. Your Rebus signet ring is a canvas upon which to tell your unique story and illustrate your creativity, and we’re here to help you every step of the way.

The first step in the design process is to reflect on what is important to you. Take time to think about significant moments in your life: the people you love, the people you’ve lost, your beliefs and values. Keep a journal of ideas, including quotes from your favourite books, song lyrics, photographs, or objects that remind you of someone special. Make note of important dates like engagements, weddings, graduation, or the birth of a child. These details will serve as a starting point for your design.

Next, it’s time to get inspired. Some people chose to visit art galleries and museums, or spend time at the library researching symbols, while others rely on our award-winning team to help coax out ideas. Use creative online resources like Pinterest, Instagram, and the Rebus crest finder to explore subjects and concepts that fit your narrative. If you’re not sure where to start, consider exploring topics such as:
Astrology and constellations
Numerology and co-ordinates
Botany and wildlife drawing
Mythology, cultural, and religious symbols
Totems and talismans

Once you have refined your ideas and settled on the elements you would like to feature, it’s time to create a brief. This document, along with your found images, should outline the style and precise content you wish to portray. Sharing the story behind your theme provides an insight into your personality and goes a long way in helping our artists create something true to you.

Your Rebus Design Consultant will then liaise with the artist on your behalf, ensuring that your vision is brought to life. Approximately 2-3 weeks after submitting your brief, you will receive an email with a PDF copy of your artwork, which you can review and make any changes if necessary. Upon completion of your ring, you will receive a presentation copy of your artwork for you to keep as a memento of this exciting journey.

Designing a signet ring is a personal and thoughtful process, and we’re honoured to be a part of it. At Rebus, we believe that a signet ring is more than just a piece of jewellery – it’s a reflection of your unique story and a symbol of your personal legacy. Let’s create something together that will stand the test of time.
